Obituary for Martha Emanuel

Martha Ann Emanuel, age 79, of Eddyville, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, January 16, 2018, at Mahaska County Hospital, under hospice care, in Oskaloosa, Iowa. A Graveside Service will be held at 10:30 A.M., on Friday, January 19, 2018, with Pastor Nick Hughes officiating at Highland Cemetery in rural Eddyville. Martha Ann was born on September 7, 1938 in Oskaloosa, Iowa to Thomas Cornelius and Elizabeth Anastatia (Altmaier) Vroom. Martha Ann was raised in Oskaloosa, and for a short time lived in Oregon, then her family returned to the area and resided in Oskaloosa. Martha Ann graduated from Oskaloosa High School, Class of 1956. Martha Ann enjoyed roller skating when she was younger. She later met the love of her life at the roller skating rink. On May 25, 1958, Martha Ann was united in marriage to Kenneth Eugene Emanuel at the 1st Baptist Church in Oskaloosa. To this union four children were born; Martha, Kimberly, Tracey, and Kenneth. Martha Ann was a Homemaker most of her life. She enjoyed making cakes, pies, and she later worked for Casey’s General Store making doughnuts for five years. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Martha enjoyed the local bible study group with her friends in Eddyville. She was a member of the 1st Baptist Church in Oskaloosa. Martha Ann is survived by her loving husband of over 59 years, Kenny ‘Fats” Emanuel; four children, Martha Ann Emanuel of Albia, Kimberly Johnson ( David) of Moravia, Tracey Van Maanen (Randy) of Eddyville, and Kenneth Emanuel II (Cara) of Albia; and one brother, Thomas Vroom of Henderson, Nevada. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Chelsea Thompson (JD), Dana McKim (Steven), Christie Wilson (Willie) and Ashley Emanuel; and great grandchildren, Jaylynn Emanuel, Steven McKim, Jr., Carson McKim, Kase Wilson, and Kyler Wilson. Martha Ann is preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Elizabeth Vroom; and one brother, Daryl Vroom. Memorial contributions may be made to Martha Ann’s family.
