Obituary for Jo Berto

Jo Ann Berto, age 82, of Eddyville, Iowa, died Saturday, October 24, 2015 at the Monroe Care Center in Albia, Iowa. Visitation for Jo Ann will be held from 11:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M., on Tuesday, October 27, 2015 at the Eddyville Funeral Chapel. Jo Ann’s children will greet family and friends from 6 to 8:00 P.M., Tuesday evening. Funeral services for Jo Ann will be held at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, October 28, 2015 at the Trinity Lutheran Church of Ottumwa, with Pastor James Preus officiating. Burial will follow services at the Highland Cemetery of Eddyville. Jo Ann was born November 5, 1932 in Oskaloosa, Iowa to Harry C. and Olive E. (Crayne) Homer. Jo Ann graduated from Oskaloosa, Class of 1951. On Sunday, September 10, 1954, at the Trinity Lutheran Church of Ottumwa, Jo Ann and Donald Mike Berto were united in marriage. Jo Ann and Donald shared 56 years of marriage together and were blessed with three children: Michael, Mary and Ronda. Donald passed away on September 29, 2010. Jo Ann had worked at Barnhouse Music Publishers and The Leader Store, both of Oskaloosa, for a few years, before raising her family. For many years she was a farmwife and homemaker for her family. After her children were raised she worked at Mattingly Books of Oskaloosa and various stores in Albia. Jo Ann is survived by her children, Michael D. Berto and his wife Sandy of Ottumwa, Mary E. Brown and her husband Dennis of Cedar, and Ronda Morten and her husband Steve of Albia; 6 grandchildren, Sarah Heady and her husband Nick May, Allison Heady, Natalie Berto, Sarah Harris and her husband Luke, Tyler Brown and his wife Sylvia, and Lucas Brown and his wife Kaitlyn; 6 great grandchildren, Kara, Ethan, and Allie Harris and Mira, Spencer, and Vincent Brown. She is preceded in death by her parents Harry and Olive Homer and her husband Donald Berto. A memorial has been established to the Trinity Lutheran Church.
