Obituary for Susan Powers

Susan Ann (Dixon) Powers was born January 17, 1935 in Albia, Iowa and passed away peacefully from complications of Alzheimer’s, February 16, 2017 at Good Samaritan Society in Ottumwa, Iowa. Susan graduated high school from Fort Dodge, Iowa. She married and raised her family in the Rockwell City area. Susan was a homemaker and home health care provider. She loved baking for her family and friends, especially banana bread, chocolate cupcakes, and chocolate chip cookies. Susan was an avid reader and appreciated music. She lived in the towns of Osceola, Des Moines, and Eddyville before her passing. A celebratory mass, officiated by Fr. Mike Volkmer, will be held to honor Susan’s life on Saturday, March 18, 2017 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Mary’s Church, Albia, 730 Benton Avenue W, Albia, Iowa. Internment of ashes to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Albia. Survivors include her four children, Jack (Diane) Powers, Mary Susan Powers, Patrick (LeAnn) Powers, and Lorrie (Paul Wettestad) Powers, ten grandchildren (Deborah Powers, Meghan (Haley Risdal) Powers, Brian Powers, Andrew (Shannon) Powers, Angeline Powers, Eion Powers, Powers Cleo Burton, Rachel Powers, Tanner Powers, and Alan Powers-Wettestad) and one great grandson (Jackson Evans). Susan was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Mildred (Weir) Dixon, and a brother Jackie Joe Dixon. Memorials may be made to Good Samaritan Society of Ottumwa or Hospice of Ottumwa. The Eddyville Funeral Chapel is assisting Susan’s family with services.
