Evelyn C. (Harper) DenHartog, age 85, of rural Oskaloosa, Iowa, passed away Monday morning, April 15, 2019 at the Serenity House of Oskaloosa, Iowa.Visitation for Evelyn will begin at 11:00 A.M., on Wednesday, April 17, 2019 at the Eddyville Funeral Chapel of Eddyville. Evelyn’s family will be present at the funeral chapel from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., Wednesday evening.A funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, April 18, 2019 also at the Eddyville Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow services at Hennes Cemetery of rural Mahaska County.Evelyn was born on August 31, 1933, in Oskaloosa, Iowa, the daughter of Faye and Myrtle (Day) Harper. She graduated from Oskaloosa High School, Class of 1951. She lived her whole life south of Oskaloosa by GivenEvelyn was secretary for many years at Eddyville Community Schools. She was a life time member of the First Christian Church in Eddyville, where she served on many, many committees. She was also a member of the Given Neighbors Club, CFW, Eddyville Fire Board and always there for everyone who needed food services.Evelyn attended the Iowa State Fair for over 45 years. She loved NASCAR and Dale, Jr., was her favorite. She loved to knit and knitted over 100 personalized Christmas stockings for friends and family. She always had something for anyone who walked in her front door.Evelyn and William Eugene “Porky” DenHartog were united in marriage on February 26, 1956 at the First Christian Church in Eddyville. Evelyn and Porky were blessed with two children, Scott and Patricia and shared 45 years of marriage. Porky died on June 26, 2011.Evelyn is survived by her children Scott (Cindy) DenHartog of Oskaloosa, Patricia (Donald) Herr, Sr., of Sigourney; a granddaughter Ashley (Trevor) Conrad of Wellman; three great grandkids, Eli, Alex, and Isaiah; two step grandsons Ryan and Lee (Shelby) Grimes; niece Kellie (Walt) Sprague of Missouri; and nephew Kenny Stanfield of Montana.Evelyn is preceded in death by her parents, Faye and Myrtle Harper; husband, William "Porky" DenHartog; and sister, Marilyn.A memorial has been established to the Eddyville Fire Department.
