Obituary for Donna Hargis

Donna Jean (Rouze) Hargis, 81, of Eddyville, died Sunday morning, November 25, 2018, surrounded by her family at her home in rural Eddyville.She was born August 21, 1937, at Ottumwa hospital, the daughter of Paul and Nellie (Stodghill) Rouze. She was raised on the family farm near Chillicothe, Iowa. Donna graduated from Eddyville High School class of 1955. Donna attended Ottumwa Heights college. She worked at her uncle's general store in Chillicothe and at an Ottumwa insurance agency.Donna met her future husband David Hargis at the neighborhood Columbia church in rural Eddyville. She was united in marriage to the love of her life at that same church on January 5, 1958. They had two sons Alan and Larry. David and Donna farmed and resided in rural Eddyville the last 61 years. Donna helped in the operation of the family farm in addition to caring for her family and home. She was a devoted wife and mother who loved planning holiday activities for her grandchildren including Easter egg hunts and hidden Christmas stocking presents with many creative clues to follow, sending the grand kids on an adventure around the house to find them. She delighted in attending her son's and grandchildren's ball games and activities. Donna was a member of the Eddyville United Methodist Church, where she was a faithful servant over the years, serving as a church officer; Sunday school teacher; piano player; choir member and United Methodist Women's group. She took great pride in organizing the children's Christmas program for many years. She was a 53 year member of P.E.O., Chapter DG in Eddyville; she served as the clerk for the Columbia Township and Columbia cemetery and worked the voting precinct in Eddyville for many years as well.Donna is survived by her husband David of Eddyville, her two sons Alan (Darla) of Ottumwa and Larry (Tina) of Bondurant, Iowa; four grandchildren, Samantha (Marc) Van Wyk of Monroe, Sabrina Hargis of Cedar Rapids, Mason and Kaylie Hargis of Ottumwa and two great grandchildren Lincoln and Memphis of Monroe. Donna was preceded in death by her parents.The Eddyville Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Services and burial will be held Thursday, November 29, 2018, at 10:30 A.M., at Eddyville United Methodist Church with Pastor Jim Dotson officiating, with burial at the Columbia Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 11:00 A.M., at the Eddyville Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, November 28, 2018. Donna’s family will be present Wednesday evening from 5:30 to 7:30 P.M. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Eddyville United Methodist Church or Hospice of Davis and Wapello Counties.
