Obituary for Philip Johnson

Philip Myron Johnson, age 80, of Albia, Iowa, joined his heavenly father on March 4, 2015, at the Monroe Care Center of Albia, Iowa. Myron was born on March 25, 1934 In Fredrick, Iowa. He was the son of Lloyd and Lolo Gladys (Thompson) Johnson. Myron was raised in rural Eddyville and attended Coalfield Country School. Myron married the love of his life, Marilyn Jean Gutch, on November 14, 1954, in Ottumwa, Iowa. They were able to share 60 years together before his passing. They were blessed with four children: Norman, Nolan, Lowell, and LeLand. Myron was a veteran of the US Army and retired from the Iowa Department of Transportation after 30 years of service. Myron enjoyed to dance with his bride, teach his sons and others about the great outdoors, and was a trapping enthusiast. Myron was a founding member of the Iowa Trappers Association and an active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, using his God given gifts to serve others. Those who knew Myron will remember his welcoming smile, his love for his wife and family; and his willingness to lend a helping hand and his tenacity in a game of pitch or pinochle. Myron is survived by his bride of 60 years Marilyn of Albia; four sons, Norman (Sandra) Johnson, Nolan Johnson, Lowell (Mary Ellen) Johnson and Leland Johnson; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Myron is also survived by his sister Phyllis Harding and his brother John R. (Delores) Johnson. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Bob, Don, Jim, and Irvin Johnson and two sisters, Pearl Williams and Helen Akers. Visitation for Myron will be held from 10:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M., on Sunday, March 8, 2015 at the Eddyville Funeral Chapel. Myron’s family will greet friends from 1 to 4:00 P.M., Sunday afternoon. Funeral services for Myron will be held at 10:30 A.M., Monday, March 9, 2015 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Albia, with Pastor Nancy Reed officiating. Following services a luncheon will be provided and at 2:00 P.M., burial with military honors will be held at the Highland Cemetery of Eddyville. A memorial has been established in Myron’s name to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Condolences may be sent to www.eddyvillefuneralchapel.com.
