Obituary for Virginia Taylor

Virginia Arlene Taylor, age 91, of Eddyville, Iowa, died Saturday morning, February 6, 2016, at the Northern Mahaska Care Center of Oskaloosa, Iowa. Visitation for Virginia will begin at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, February 9, 2016, at the Eddyville Funeral Chapel. Virginia’s family will be present from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., Tuesday evening. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, February 10, 2016, at the Eddyville Funeral Chapel, with Pastor Rod Stodghill officiating. Burial will follow services at Highland Cemetery of Eddyville, with Bill Moore officiating. Virginia was born December 20, 1924, to Rolla and Pearl Myra (Johnson) Puder at the family home in Hayesville, Iowa. Virginia graduated from Sigourney High School in 1942. Following high school, Virginia received her normal training at William Penn College in Oskaloosa. Virginia met Delbert Jennings Taylor while both were attending William Penn. They were united in marriage on June 18, 1949, at the First Christian Church of Sigourney, Iowa. Delbert and Virginia were blessed with seven children and 48 years of marriage. Delbert passed away at their home on May 2, 1997. Virginia taught in a Keokuk County country school and Keota Public Schools before marriage. She followed her husband to Ft. Riley, Kansas, during his years of military service. For over thirty-five years Virginia dedicated her time to her husband and children as a full-time homemaker. After raising her family, Virginia began working with SIEDA and later DHS both of Mahaska County. Virginia attended Parkview Bible Chapel and hosted a weekly Bible study group at her home for many years. She was also an avid reader and her greatest pleasures were watching her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren’s activities. Virginia is survived by her children, Joe (Linda) Taylor of Oskaloosa, Sherie Taylor of Dallas, Texas, Dan (Tami) Taylor of Oskaloosa, Johnny (Terry) Taylor of Indianola, Tommy (Robin) Taylor of Eddyville, Timmy (Jill) Taylor of Mt. Pleasant, and Sara Lou (Randy) Fry of Gasport, New York; 18 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. Virginia is also survived by her sister, Mildred Steel of Windsor, Colorado, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Rolla and Pearl Puder; her husband, Delbert Taylor; and her sister, Marie VandeKrol.
