Obituary

Mary Anna Welch, age 95, of Oskaloosa passed away on Sunday, November 10, 2019 at Northern Mahaska Specialty Care in Oskaloosa.  She was born on August 27, 1924 in Eddyville to Robert and Annabelle (Blackwood) Simmers.

Mary married Max Eugene Welch on June 21, 1942 in Lancaster, MO.  They were blessed with three children, Kathy, Kim, and Ted.  She was primarily a homemaker, but also enjoyed working the snack bar at the Dutch Roller Rink in Pella.  She volunteered for numerous organizations; including the Disabled American Veterans, American Legion in Eddyville, PTA, and Girl Scout Troops.  She loved to cook, and she cooked for twenty family members every Sunday until she was eight-nine.  She was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan, enjoyed her car rides on Wednesday nights and every weekend with her sister Esther, and especially enjoyed going to all of her children’s and grandchildren’s events.

She is survived by her children, Kathy Grubb, Kim (Mike) Roozeboom, Ted (Connie) Welch all of Oskaloosa, eight grandchildren, Kelly (Charles) Fisher, Gordy (Paula) Grubb, Kari (Joe) Flaherty, Nicholas (Cynthia) Welch, Kandis (Matt) Sherlock, Jacob (Amanda) Welch, Sarah (Austin) Harms, and Mathew Hynick, twenty great grandchildren, five great great grandchildren; and sister, Hazel DeHaai of Pella.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Annabelle Blackwood; husband, Max Welch; brothers, Harold, Earl, Frank, Carl, and John R.; sisters, Louise, Edna, Gertrude, Esther, and Ruth; and son-in-law, Clarence Grubb.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, November 14, 2019 at the Eddyville Funeral Chapel with Pastor Dan Visser officiating.  Mary’s family will be present one hour prior to services Thursday morning.  Interment will follow services in Highland Cemetery in Eddyville.  Memorials may be directed to the Eddyville Historical Museum.  Online condolences may be left for the family at eddyvillefuneralchapel.com.

We are so very sorry to hear about Aunt Mary's passing. Our thoughts are with all her kids and their families. There are so many extended family members that will miss her tremendously. Unfortunately, Bruce is working out of state and I will be out of state at the time of the service also. We will not be able to be with the family during this sorrowful time. Please know that we will be there in heart and spirit. Love to you all.
