Obituary for Richard "Bird" Lewman

Richard “Bird” Eugene Lewman, age 70, of Eddyville passed away on April 16, 2020 at his residence under the care of the Serenity House Hospice in Oskaloosa. He was born January 12, 1950 in Ottumwa to William and Vina (Johnston) Lewman.

He graduated from Eddyville High School, class of 1968. He married Linda Ann Leander on June 18, 1971, and they were blessed with two children, Elizabeth and Blaine. He worked for the City of Eddyville as the Water Superintendent. After retirement he became a handy man around Eddyville.

Richard was a board member of the Eddyville Funeral Chapel, Eddyville City Water, and was on the board of directors for Pleasant Valley Manor for many years. He was also a fireman in his younger years. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, gardening, golfing, and spending his winters with Linda in Alabama.

He is survived by his wife Linda of Eddyville; children, Elizabeth “Liz” (Jason) Bradley of Algona, Blaine (Alyssa) Lewman of Clive; four grandchildren, Peyton and Tyler Bradley, Lucy and Sophia Lewman; and siblings, Gloria (Jim) Decker of Eddyville, Willie (Sandy) Lewman of Bryson City, NC. He was preceded in death by his parents, William “Bill” and Vina, and infant sister, Virginia.

Due to the restrictions put in place by the department of public health in an effort to protect the community from COVID 19 services at this time will be private. Graveside Services will be held on Monday, April 20, 2020 at Highland Cemetery in Eddyville with Father Mark Yates C.PP.S. officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Eddyville Library, Serenity House Hospice in Oskaloosa, or Eddyville Historical Museum.
