Obituary for George Hynick

George “Richard” Hynick, age 78, of Eddyville died on November 24, 2020 at MercyOne in Des Moines, IA.  He was born February 1, 1942 to George and Anna (Gutch) Hynick in Oskaloosa, Iowa.  
 
Richard graduated from Eddyville High School in 1960.  He worked at Lost Creek Coal Company and on the family farm.  In 1963 he married Shirley Ann Lobberecht.  From this union they had four children: Lisa Ann, George Richard, Mary Eva, and Kathleen (Kitty) Sue.  
 
He later worked at Ideal Manufacturing, Hormel, and Vermeer; from where he retired in 2004.  He was a life long member of the Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oskaloosa. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan, and enjoyed woodworking, welding, and especially gardening, where he was known for his salsa and dill green beans.  He was the local Santa Claus for many years.  
 
Richard is survived by his wife, Shirley Hynick of Eddyville; children, Lisa (Doug) Baum of Ham Lake, MN, George (Sandy) Hynick of Beacon, IA, Mary (Roger) Gutch of Eddyville, Kathleen (Brad) LeClere of Ryan, IA; ten grandchildren, Elizabeth, Rebecca, Aaron, Ana, Sheri, Kathryn, Ruth E., Lanae, Lauren, and Lexi; four great grandchildren, Jordan, Jhene’, Jackson, Ruby, and another on the way.  He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Anna Hynick, and three siblings, Irene Tesinsky Anfinson, Eva Genochio, and Georgina Boyer. 
 
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, November 30, 2020 at the Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oskaloosa with Pastor Roger Neumann officiating.  Interment will follow in Highland Cemetery in Eddyville.  Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 29, 2020, opening to the public at 11:00 a.m., with Richard’s family present to greet friends from 2-4 p.m., Sunday afternoon at the Eddyville Funeral Chapel. According to the rules put in place by the Iowa Department of Public Health, proper social distancing and reasonable personal protective equipment is advised for attending a religious public event.
