Obituary for Barbara Wilkin

Barbara Jane (Morrison) Wilkin passed away on Sunday, January 3, 2021.  Barbara was born in Ottumwa, Iowa  on June 4, 1939 to parents Graham John Morrison and Alice Josephine (Brassington) Morrison.  A 1957 graduate of Eddyville High School, she married James Leroy Wilkin  at Trinity Episcopal Church on August 31, 1957.  Barbara and Jim  raised their children, Laura and Robert, in Ottumwa before moving to Arkansas City, Kansas in 1974, Sioux Falls, South Dakota in 1982, and Lenexa, Kansas in 1997. 

Barbara had a passionate interest in preschool education working as a Montessori teacher and preschool director for over 35 years.  Her life was centered around deep faith and love for the Lord, always belonging to the Episcopal church.  She was active in prayer groups, faith education and choirs where she relished the scripture and beautiful music in the hymns.  She was a proud member of the League of Women Voters, the Democratic National Committee, Beta Sigma Phi, and P.E.O.  Barbara was always up for spending time with her family, traveling, playing cards and games, sewing, quilting and doing needlework, and watching her beloved University of Kansas Jayhawks.

Barbara was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, James Wilkin, her brother David Morrison, and in-laws Jerry Harding, William Wilkin, J.I. Wilkin, Bill Edgar and Geraldine Wilkin.  She is survived by her children Laura Jean (Michael) Hurley and Robert James (Cristi) Wilkin; grandchildren Jordan Wilkin, Evan Hurley, Ashton Wilkin and Elizabeth Hurley;  siblings Connie Harding, Charles Morrison, and Nancy Edgar; in-laws Judee Morrison, Grace and Ronnie Francis, Carol Wilkin, Shirley and Jack Tingle, Archie and Karen Wilkin, and Kathleen Wilkin; her nieces, nephews and their children.

Celebration of Life Visitation will be held on Friday, July 9, 2021, from 2:00 to 5:00 pm at the Eddyville Funeral Chapel. Inurnment with Rev. Kevin Enge from Trinity Episcopal Church will be Saturday, July 10, 2021 at 9:00 a.m. in Shaul Cemetery, 1339 Bluegrass Road, Ottumwa Iowa.
