Obituary for Duane "Berf" Davis

Duane “Berf” Charles Davis, age 65, passed away on Friday, July 29, 2022. He was born on August 18,1956 to Roy and Helen (Rogers) Davis.

Duane attended school in Eddyville and graduated with the class of ‘74. He married Cindy Ferns “The love of his life” on June 18, 1975 at the First Christian Church in Oskaloosa. They shared 47 wonderful years of marriage and never were apart from each other. To this union, they were blessed with two children, Jacob and Jessica.

Duane was raised on the family farm in rural Eddyville. He was a farmer to the core all of his life. He loved raising cattle. Duane began his lifelong ambition of farming in the Eddyville area with his parents (Roy and Helen) with a cow calf operation, growing corn, soybeans and hay. He now proudly shares his farming legacy with his wife, son and grandchildren. Duane is leaving a legacy of farming for future generations to come. He worked at John Deere Ottumwa Works for 19 years until his retirement in January 2021. He enjoyed many activities including: Building projects in his shop to use on the farm, fishing, hunting and family camping trips to the “Quarry”. Most of all he loved spending time with his family and watching his grandchildren’s activities. Duane never knew a stranger and will be remembered for his helping hand when needed. He also was a member of the UAW local 74 where he served as a Union Steward and Alternate Committeeman for many years.

He is survived by his wife Cindy Davis of Eddyville; son, Jacob “Jake” (Lisa) Davis of Eddyville; grandchildren, Ethan, Kyle, Nicole and Blake Davis of Eddyville; mother-in-law, Joan Ferns of Eddyville, sister-in-law, Rosie Acord of Oskaloosa, nephew, Zeb Acord of Ames, good friend, Jim Roe of Eddyville and sister, Frances “Fran” (Alan) Katko of Eddyville,He was preceded in death by his daughter, Jessica Davis, parents, Roy and Helen Davis, father-in-law, Louie Ferns and a sister, Virginia Davis.

Celebration of Life Services will be held on Saturday, August 6, 2022 at 10:30 a.m., at the Eddyville Funeral Chapel. A private family burial will be held at a later date.Visitation will be on Friday, August 5, 2022, opening to the public at 3:00 p.m., with family present from 5-7 p.m. at the Eddyville Funeral Chapel. Memorials may be directed to the family, to be determined at a later date.
