Obituary for Connie Harding

Connie Joan Harding, age 81, of Eddyville, IA, passed away on Friday, August 12, 2022 at the Mahaska Health Partnership in Oskaloosa.  She was born on November 11, 1940 to Graham John and Alice (Jo) Josephine (Brassington) Morrison.

Connie graduated from Eddyville High School in 1959. While attending EHS she met and began dating her future husband Jerry Don Harding.  They often would tell stories of their time with friends and of the pranks Jerry would plan.  Connie and Jerry were united in marriage on May 24, 1963, at the Trinity Episopal Church in Ottumwa.   They were blessed with two daughters, Sara and Joellen.  Jerry preceded her in death on November 20, 2004.

Connie started off her work career as a telephone operator in Des Moines.  After she and Jerry married she worked at Big Smith in Oskaloosa.  She finally found the job she was looking for and spent the rest of her career at Mahaska State Bank in Oskaloosa.  She thoroughly enjoyed her time at the bank and continued friendships with many of her colleagues.

She was a member of the Eddyville United Methodist Church.  She enjoyed boating with her husband Jerry, planting and attending her flowers, cooking for her family, and shopping trips with her dear friend Kay.

But the heart of Connie's life was her grandchildren.  Connie not only made it to all of the soccer, basketball, softball, volleyball, and little league games she was often the one taking them to practice.  Owen, Eleanor, and Miles loved when Grammy would take them because somehow they always ended up with ice cream.

Connie is survived by her daughters, Sara Jordison & Greg Stokes of Marion, Joellen (Scott) Swartz of Eddyville; grandchildren, Owen (Daniel) Breon, Eleanor (Hunter) Else, Miles Breon, Adrian (Rob) McNew; great grandchildren, Bella McNew & Avery McNew; siblings, Nancy Edgar of Waterloo, Charles Morrison of Iowa City; brother-in-law, Larry (Kathy) Harding of Eddyville, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Graham and Alice Morrison; husband, Jerry Harding; sister, Barbara and Jim Wilkin, and brother, David Morrison.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, August 16, 2022 at the Eddyville United Methodist Church with Rev. Olivia Fabros officiating and Shawn LaRue assisting. Interment will follow in Highland Cemetery in Eddyville.  Visitation will be held on Monday, August 15, 2022, opening to the public at 2:00 p.m., with family present from 5-7 p.m., at Eddyville Funeral Chapel.  Memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association.  Online condolences may be left for the family at eddyvillefuneralchapel.com
