Obituary for Heather Elswick

Heather Johnita Elswick, age 51, of Eddyville, Iowa, passed away on November 8, 2023. Born on November 15, 1971 to Harold and Pamela (Simmers) Steel. Heather lived a life full of love, compassion and zest, bringing joy to all those who were fortunate to know her. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, with her family always at the heart of her existence.

Heather graduated from Eddyville High School, class of 1990. She was united in marriage with her soulmate on September 19, 1994, a union that was blessed with children and grandchildren whom she adored. Heather was an integral part of her community through her work as a cashier at a local BP convenience store, where she was known for her warm and welcoming demeanor. Beyond her work, Heather was a woman of many interests. She found joy in the simplicity of life, often spending her time fishing, cooking, or camping. These hobbies allowed her to express her love for nature and her culinary skills, both of which were appreciated by those close to her.

Heather was a woman who cherished her family unconditionally; her greatest joy came from spending time with her grandchildren, who were the apple of her eye. She was a beacon of love and strength, leaving behind an indelible mark on the hearts of all who knew her. She will be remembered not just for her kind and loving nature, but also for her resilience, her spirit, and her unwavering dedication to her family.

Heather is survived by her loving husband, Tim Elswick of Eddyville; children, Dylan Elswick of Ottumwa, Sierra (Jordan) Terrell of Eddyville, Tristan (Kelli) Elswick of Eddyville; grandchildren, Aiden, Hudson, & Jovi Terrell, Madison, Carter, Rhaya, & Ava Elswick; siblings, Terry (Linda) Steel of New Sharon, Rod “Harry” Steel of Albia, Polecat (Laura) Steel of Eddyville, Christy Steel of Eddyville, Craig (Tonya) Steel of Eddyville, and best friend, Kim (Lonnie) McCoy of Clear Lake, WI. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold & Pamela Steel and step-father, Paul Kauzlarich.

Heathers’ body has been cremated per her wishes. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the family in care of Eddyville Funeral Chapel, 216 Walnut St. Eddyville, Iowa 52553, RE: Elswick family.
